Movie Clip Wednesday - Best Action Movie

Boxer is hosting a Movie Clip Wednesday Meme where everyone picks a clip from their favorite movies based on a weekly theme. This week's theme is BEST ACTION MOVIE.  At first I thought this was going to be a really tough category.  There are dozens of good action films out there.  Some that immediately came to mind were Terminator, Die Hard and even Star Wars.  Then I thought, no there is only one true action (adventure) movie that set the benchmark for all future action (adventure) movies.  It has a great story line, likable hero, well written script, excellent cinematography, whole slew of action sequences and a bull whip.  I'm talking about none other than Raiders of the Lost Ark.  I love this movie and could watch it every day.

For the generally stick-figurish actor that he is, Harrison Ford played this part magnificently.  I really don't like any of his other movies.  And I think this is Spielberg's best movie, which is really saying something when compared to Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, ET and Saving Private Ryan.

I think the best scene in the movie is the fight scene in Marion Ravenwood's Tibetan Bar.  I love the part when he's face down on the bar and says to Marion, "Whiskey?"  The sound quality on this clip is pretty low, so you'll need to turn up the speakers (damn youtube).  Enjoy.

And I think this is the funniest scene in the whole movie.  Because after everything Indiana Jones went through to this point, only a woman could make him scream in pain like this.

If you want to see more action movies, than lock and load and head on over to Boxer's.

You said everything I wanted to, but didn't/couldn't. I'm glad you picked this movie. It really was great. The first is always better than the sequels and I didn't bother watching anymore after the second one. It really was a benchmark for movies that followed. I'm not a big fan of Spielberg, but this one?

I loved it.

Happy MCW. Happy Movie Blog Jinx!

Fabulous choice and I forgot Die Hard and Star Wars! The bar scene in the latter is fabulous too :)

But Terminator is one of my faves plus another perennial :)

Nice choice. I liked the first one and was meh on the second. Didn't see the rest. Did you find it hard to find "Die Hard" clips that some moron didn't ruin with "creative editing"?

Happy MCW

Good morning Buzz Kill,

This movie had so many good scenes, we could probably do a clip day on it alone.

Man I haven't seen that in years !

Gonna be lots of blog jinxing with this one. Loved the movie. I remember that terrific, tingling feeling of elation when I first saw it. It was like nothing before it. Happy MCW!

You know, that might be my favorite movie EVER. The bar fight scene is fabulous and really sets the future tone of the story with Mr. Evil Torture Guy burning his hand with the pendant. Such fabulous storytelling. I am going to be hard-pressed to find something other than ROTLA or Die Hard. Faves all around.

ROTLA and the Holly Grail were both pretty good. I haven't seen the latest one because I think Harrison Ford is too old for the role. Do you remember The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles on TV series back in the early 90s? The guy they had playing the old Indiana Jones had an eye patch which I thought was hysterical. Probably missing some fingers too.

Joanna
There's a handful of great action flicks and the Terminator is right in there.

Troll
I found it hard to find Raiders clips. The bar scene really wasn't my first choice but youtube is pretty limited and some goofball always thinks they can make the original better or funny.

Karl
Yeah only good luck finding them. See above comment to Troll.

Heff
Watch it again, it never gets old.

Moi
I'm surprised only Boxer and I jinxed. I thought at least 3 or 4 would pick this film.

The Evil Torture Guy was great in this movie. I loved the scene later when he takes out what looks like a toture device and it turns out to be a coat hanger. There's that kind of humor throughout the movie which really combines well with the action. I think that's what really makes this movie great. Die Hard has the same comedy/action thing going too.
