Death of a god - Ronnie James Dio

The passing of a heavy metal god occurred yesterday. Ronnie James Dio performed with Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, and his own band Dio. One of the most influential metal vocals in history with such hits as Holy Diver, Man on the Silver Mountain and Rainbow in the Dark. He also popularized the "devil's horns" seen at all concerts. Who'd have thought that Ozzy would outlive him? Bang your heads.

Uh--ain't conversant wif' things Heavy Metal, but of what did the fella die? how ole was he?

( Ok I admit it--I is a freak that never got it on the music front. Uncle played in a high school band wif' Steven Stills and Donny Felder--but somehow all that early kool eluded Miss Nose in a Book an I never did catch up.)

Oh--an YES, of COURSE Uncle is OLDER than Nose in a Book.

Damn! That is sad....

But he didn't have the strength of a Sharon Osbourne keeping him going maybe??? I'm not a heavy metal person either ... until I recently re-discovered Led Zepplin.

You can lump Keith Richards (literally) into the I-can't-believe-they're-still-alive group too.

Aunty
He was 67 and he died from stomach cancer. Tough way to go. And Uncle played with Stills and Felder? Wow, two brushes with greatness. But they're a differnet kind of music from Black Sabbath (a little different).

Dani
Yeah, but he lived the life and by heavy metal standards, he was 107 years old.

Pam
I think you can only do so much against cancer. Good for you with Zepplin. The Zoso album is the absolute best. Had that one on vinyl and 8-track.

Good evening Buzz Kill,

Devil's horns is that what they're doing when they stick out the forefinger and the pinky with the middle and ring finger curled?

Hold the f--k on. This can't be true, it can't! This man is a god to me. Hands down one of the greatest voices in rock and roll, a rainbow in the dark, a holy diver, a lover of life, not a sinner. This is going to upset me for a long time . . .

You got it dude. Now crank up the Ac/DC and practice, practice, practice.

Moi
I figured you out of everyone here would take this the hardest. He had stomach cancer so I'm sure he's better off.

When I see lightning - you know it always brings me down
Cause it’s free and I see that it’s me
Who’s lost and never found
Feel the magic -feel it floating in the air
But it’s fear - and you’ll hear
It calling you beware

There’s no sight of the morning coming
There’s no sight of the day
You’ve been left on your own
Like a rainbow
Like a Rainbow in the Dark
You’re a rainbow in the dark
Just a rainbow in the dark
No sign of the morning
You’re a rainbow in the dark
