Movie Clip Wednesday - Best Sports Movie

Boxer seems to be coming out of her funk and is actually participating in the magic she created. But it's the Milk River Madman that continues to take up the mantle that is Movie Clip Wednesday, the Meme where everyone picks a clip from their favorite movies based on a weekly theme and tries to keep the clip or clips to around 3 minutes long. This week's theme is BEST SPORTS MOVIE. I was just watching A League of Their Own, which is a great baseball movie and one of the few movies that makes me cry at the end (yeah, I said it). Caddyshack (which I did last week), North Dallas Forty, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, The Longest Yard, Eight Men Out, The Hustler, Major League and Bull Durham all come to mind. Interestingly, most of your great sports movies seem to be about baseball. But the sports movie I like the best is 1977's Slapshot. And it's because of three words - the Hanson Brothers. The frightening part is that all three of these guys were actual minor league hockey players and went back to hockey afterwards, even though they were offered (and turned down) a spin-off movie. Scary realism - these guys are covered in blood in almost every scene. Does it get any better than that? ...I think not.

This is the best line in the whole movie:

I'm looking forward to seeing the "jock" in everybody over at the Madman 's.

Good morning Buzz Kill,

You won't be surprised that I haven't seen this. You're clips were very entertaining. Actually good enough I may try to find and watch this one.

Don't work too hard cooking for the holiday. Try to kick back and enjoy some of it.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed we jinxed but great jinxing. Two great clips. Cooking for a restaraunt full of people it sounds like. 26 is a lot. Good thing you have the skills. Happy Thanksgiving Buzz.

Nicely done. I'm not a big sports movie fan, but these were at least interesting.

Enjoy those 26 people this weekend and please tell me at least half of them like to CLEAN!

Twenty-six people? I bow to your mad skillz. And second Boxer's wishes for a clean up crew. Happy Thanksgiving!

I always thought of this movie as Forrest Gump on ice.

Moi
26 is down from 34. Except for the sweet potato smoke bomb (major leak in the oven), this was a cake walk.

Chicky
I always thought of hockey as a legal way for stret gangs to rumble.

Heff/Karl
You'd like this one, even if you're not into hockey. After the cooking is when I get to drink (even more) and chat with the family before I throw them out.

Madman
We jinxed but at least we grabbed different clips. And I kind of thought we'd jinx, you being so close to Canada and all.

Boxer
I think women would find this movie mildly ammusing. It has Paul Newman in it. I never have to do any of the clean up (except things I wash in between preps). Otherwise I would never do this.

Joanna
Lumps is a good way to describe the Hansons.

Aunty
A good time had by all - even my in-laws.
