That Movie Clip Wednesday eggplant humiliater (is there a PETA for vegetables?), Boxer is truly a one-woman-show for the foreseeable future. So the lovely Joanna Cake again is performing the hostess duties she has become so good at doing. This MCW Meme has everyone picking a clip from their favorite movies based on a weekly theme while trying to keep the clip or clips to around 3 minutes long. She has decided this week's theme to be - Best Movie From A TV Series.I've actually done several posts (different themes) about TV series that made good movies. Police Squad brought us the Naked Gun movies, Get Smart and The Brady Bunch turned out to be good movies and, of course, the biggest movie franchise from a TV series of them all (and Joanna's post this week I suspect) - Star Trek. So what's left? What am I to write about?
There is ONLY one other great movie based on a TV series. And that would be 1987's - Dragnet. Alright, settle down...I'll clear the room! OK, maybe not the the BEST movie based on a TV series, but I liked it. I thought Dan Aykroyd did a good job as a modern-day (for 1987) Joe Friday. And a young Tom Hanks is always funny. This scene is a spoof on what made the TV show so interesting - the witness's statement. You may recognise Kathleen Freeman, who plays Enid Borden, as the infamous Sister Mary Stigmata ("The Penguin") from The Blues Brothers (or not).
I'm sure Joanna has some interesting movies based on TV series (Khan!!!!!!!) over at her blog.

I was going to make the same comment about Hanks' hair. So full and '80s blown out! Dan Ackroyd is a comedic genius as well.

I loved Dragnet and while I agree this was a good remake, the original series was very serious, so goofing on it annoyed a part of me. I learned so many things from Joe Friday and just repeated one of those things last weekend when we were driving to Idaho; leave one car length between cars for every 10 mph. Joe Friday taught me that. He also taught me this line;
Woman: Is that a threat, Sir?
Joe Friday: No ma'am, that's a promise.

I don't think a serious 80s Dragnet would have gone over very well - unlike this comedic version. Bwahahaha Interestingly (and I just looked it up), Jack Webb made a serious Dragnet movie back in 1954 and it was the very first movie based on a TV series - EVER. Bonus points go to Buzz.

I know the name but don't remember Dragnet the movie. However, that fluffy looks is so quintessentially Tom Hanks... and, yes, I couldn't let this one go by with some Star Trek - although I promise it was not the inspiration behind the original choice of theme :)

Now I know where that line comes from. (Do these look like the breasts of) A funny clip. I never saw the movie. But I watched the show and I still listened to repeats of the radio show. It's on its at 19:30 on Sunday nights, right before Gunsmoke.
I remember the host of the radio show saying something about the movie being made to help bolster the original TV show. The first 2 years ratings weren't as good planed. And apparently the movie helped increase the ratings of the TV show.

I doubt that an American cop show like Dragnet would be all that interesting in the UK and probably ended up on whatever your version of the Public Broadcasting System is. And just because I like doing it...Kahnnnnnnn!

Your thinking of Police Squad, which spoofed Dragnet. Is this some kind of Bust? They are impressive, but that's not why we're here. Bwahahaha
I liked the revived Dragnet series of the 60s because it was in color and they tried to bring the "counter culture" in to episodes. Watching it today, that's hysteical.
Yes, and I was actually a FAN of Bosom Buddies! I bet you watched it because of Donna-what's-her-name (and also married to Dan Aykroyd forever and a day), right?

Donna Dixon. Hell yes. Dan Aykroyd is number 2 on my list of ugly guys scoring hot wives. Number 1, of course, for scoring both Heather Locklear and Pam Anderson is - Tommy Lee. I guess it helps if your a rock star and well-endowed, but I don't know how Aykroyd did it.
