MUTE MONDAY - INDEPENDENCE (Through the Ages)

The Independence (MC80) was a Home One type Star Cruiser that, under the command of Admiral Ackbar, acted as the Rebel Alliance Fleet's flagship in the early years of the Galactic Civil War. It acted as a staging ground for several hit and fade attacks against the Galactic Empire and saw action several times against Imperial forces. During this time it also oversaw the training of several promising recruits to the Alliance to Restore the Republic.

USS Independence (1776 brig), was a brigantine built at Kingston, Massachusetts in mid-1776. The brig served in the Massachusetts State Navy and cruised off New England until captured by the Royal Navy in early 1777.

USS Independence (1776 sloop), was a 10 gun sloop commissioned in September 1776 and wrecked in 1778.

USS Independence (1814), was the first ship of the line in the Navy launched 22 June 1814 and finally being used as a receiving ship until being decommissioned 3 November 1912.

USS Independence (SP-3676), was a steamer commissioned 16 November 1918 and decommissioned 20 March 1919. She was later renamed Neville and used in Word War II.

USS Independence (CVL-22), was a light aircraft carrier, launched 22 August 1942; decommissioned 28 August 1946 and sunk during weapon testing 29 January 1951.

USS Independence (CV-62), was an aircraft carrier commissioned in 1959 and decommissioned in 1998.

USS Independence (LCS-2), is a Littoral Combat Ship currently under construction.

The USS Independence (NCC-77199) was an Interceptor-class ship that served in Starfleet. She was the fifth Starfleet ship to bear the name and part of the Allied 8th Fleet. Commissioned on Stardate 52789, The Independence was meant to see combat in the Dominion War. Only two months later, however, the war ended.

The Federation starship USS Independence (NX-90201) was launched on stardate 58759.5 (4 October 2381) and was commissioned into service at the Kyoto Naval Yards on stardate 59000.1 (1 January 2382), with Rear Admiral (retired) Demor Sulu as her sponsor.

The USS Independence (NCC-67091) was a Steamrunner-class ship in service in the mid to late 24th century.

U.S.S. Independence (NCC-76704) was a Sovereign-class explorer completed during the Dominion War and entered service assigned to Starfleet Strategic Operations Command as a command cruiser.

Some of those are from sci-fi movies, I'm guessing. Clever take.

Happy Mute Monday!

Boxer, Troll

The 1st is from Star Wars (A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away) and the last 3 are Star Trek. You can't believe how much made-up history is out there for these 2 movies. A couple websites said there were actually 6 Independence star ships (like how do they know) but I could only find 3. My fav is the CV-62. I did some design work on her many years ago.

You weren't very mute but very informative nonetheless. I thought about going this way, but chose another route. You found much more than I would have on the subject. Happy MM!

Buzz,
I really do like the way you think with pictures.
I have a couple of other thoughts,
one: you are a true appreciator of genius engineering
two: you have a search engine or browser I envy !

Aunty

No gift - persistence.

Pam

I didn't think it was obvious, so an explanation was in order.

Cake

Hey I stole them from somewhere too.

Fishy

Just Google Images and a knack for putting in the right search words I guess.

Chick

I was actually dissappointed that I couldn't find better graphics on the old ships. I was hoping to find better art work.

Moi

Glad you liked. I'm a steel hulled man myself. I love the WW2 ships.

All

Thanks for all the nice comments. I really have fun putting these together. One of these days I'll figure out how to do a Boxer video.
