Movie Clip Wednesday - Best Animal Character
Boxer is hosting a Movie Clip Wednesday Meme where everyone picks a clip from their favorite movies based on a weekly theme. This week's theme is BEST ANIMAL CHARACTER. I don't know why but I immediately thought of - Arnold Ziffel from Green Acres. It may have been because I just recently saw Pulp Fiction and this scene.
Anyway, I couldn't find any decent clips of Arnold, so I went with my Number 2 pick - Bruce from Jaws. Yes, he had a name that Spielberg and the crew gave him. And even though by today's standards this mechanical nightmare of a prop (ask Spielberg) isn't much to look at, it scared the crap out of me when I first saw it at 15. This animal is only on screen for like 3 minutes but look at the impact it's had on culture and the movie industry. Anyway, this clip isn't original but is a good compilation of the shark scenes.
If you want to see more Animal Characters, and God only knows what we'll get this week, then head on over to Boxer's.

Good morning Buzz Kill,
An interesting piece of editing. Still one of my favorite movie.
I remember reading stories of all the breakdowns Bruce had during the filming, yet he got the job done.
Happy clip day!
Arnold would have rocked! But it's a pity that role caused Hollyweird to type-cast him.
Happy MCW!
That Jaws clip is a classic.
Sweet! You called him Bruce. Most people don't know his name. Well done.
I didn't know his name, but I do know he scared the hell outta me at the age of 15 too. Then I went to Universal Studios a few years later and saw the one they had there that popped out of the water. Not so scary anymore.
Great pick!

Yeah, notthe clip I was looking for but beggers can't be choosers. When I watch it now, I can see bubbles in the skin on some of the closeups. They had to paint the thing constantly but it did get the job done. The whole chewing Quint scene still looks real to me.

The only clips I could find were 10 minutes long. Arnold was only in 15 out of 170 episodes and that was his only role. Fifteen episodes and everyone knows who he is.

Glad you enjoyed.
Madman
I saw a documentary on the making of Jaws and learned that little tidbit of worthless trivia. But if it impresses some of my blogger friends then maybe it's not so worthless.

I was on the Universal ride many years ago and I still remember the heat from the fire when the building blows up. The shark wasn't scary at all.
You're gonna need a bigger boat.
Pam
Unfortunately, that line wasn't in this clip. And I use it all the time too.
LOL, my kids wont watch it with me. Over thirty years and countless views later, I STILL jump when the head comes out of the boat and each time Bruce launches himself out of the water to attack the boat. I know exactly when it's going to happen but I still do it. Great pick :)
Lisa Douglas: "Oliver! Now you've gone and hurt his feelings!" snort, oink, snort....
LOVED this as a kid and LOVE Arnold in this show as an adult, this show was so kooky it just cracked me up. And in a weird way, after spending a lot of time in small country towns in Australia, understand Oliver Douglas' frustration to pastoral life and small communities!
Jaws scared the hell outta of a lot of people and really messed up their heads about the ocean. Those two musical notes can still put fear into many! But not La Sirena La Diva!
Happy Weekend!

I think old Ben Gardener pop out of the hole in the hull set me way back in my theater chair the first time I saw it. My kids have seen it but are so desensitized by the movies and games of today that it doesn't scare them.
Diva
"Oleeeevah!" Zsa zsa was pretty hot back then.
My father had an 18 foot boat that I couldn't go out in for quite a while after I saw this movie. And he only ran it in the Delaware Bay where there are never any sharks. It messed up my mind too. Jaws and The Exorcist scarred me for life.
Good afternoon Buzz Kill,
I'm not sure this will make you feel better. But there are sharks in the Delaware Bay it's a breeding ground for the sandbar shark. In 2008 there were 52 sand tiger sharks tagged for study in the Delaware Bay. The common hammerhead and mako have also been found there.
Back when you were boatting in your dad's boat, that was before the great kill off started.(The movie and finning) There were lots more back then, than there are now.
Have a great weekend.
Karl
You had to tell me that, didn't you? Well, I've never seen a story about a shark attack in the Delaware and only a handful in my lifetime along the Jersey Shore. I'll believe what I have to so I can get back in a boat. I haven't ocean fished in many years anyway. I'm stricktly freshwater when I have the time - which is almost never. Thanks for scaring me again.
May smackdown announced, stop by to say you're in. :)
black, likka dahl's eyes and then ya hear that awful screamin'
great choice!!
