Movie Clip Wednesday - Favorite Movie from the 1930s

That Movie Clip Wednesday recluse, Boxer is actually going to come out of hiding and resume her hostess duties starting next week - so she says. And just when I already finished picking my "Favorite Movie from the 1920s" - silent selection. Whoohoo - I mean, sorry to see the Madman go. So, for the very last time, the Milk River Madman will host MCW, the Meme where everyone picks a clip from their favorite movies based on a weekly theme and tries to keep the clip or clips to around 3 minutes long. This week's theme is FAVORITE MOVIE FROM THE 1930S. So it's only appropriate (in light of this Boxer rebellion) that I choose 1935's Mutiny on the Bounty. I actually like this movie and most of it's remakes (The Bounty with Anthony Hopkins and Mel Gibson) and permutations (The Caine Mutiny). And Charles Laughton has the biggest eyebrows you'll ever see on a man. Those things have their own zip code. And Clark Gable, not much of a Fletcher Christian, but cool in everything he does.

Interestingly, it is the only film in Oscar history that had three nominees for Best Actor: Clark Gable, Charles Laughton, and Franchot Tone. Because of this, the Academy introduced a Best Supporting Actor Oscar shortly afterward to ensure this situation would not be repeated. They all lost to Victor McLaglen for The Informer (1935), the only nominee not in this film.

So go on over and see the Madman for the last time. He's been a great host even when his schedule was hectic. Sometimes confusing, sometimes late with the theme (causing me ulcers) but always entertaining. Thanks big guy.

Hi Buzz,
I'm Back! tho a little damp around the edges.
Think I'll join the bounty crew so I can legitimately look all windswept and interesting.

I really liked this movie.

Happy MCW.

PS did you know that MRM is having a Birthday today!

Great choice for a Scout Dad.
Great choice for the rest of us too.
Happy Wednesday.

Love this and all incarnations that followed! High Seas! Drama! And I've toured a couple of those old old ships and thought ... holy cow, I'd have to throw myself overboard if I had to live in these conditions! Happy MCW! I'll be up later this morning.

I love the clip and the write up about the Academy creating Best Supporting because of this movie, nice trivia. I've never seen this movie, but The Caine Mutiny is one of my favorites so I'll add this to my list.

I promise not to make EVERY week a chick theme, just so you'll keep doing this every week.

"Whoohoo - I mean, sorry to see the Madman go." Absolutely hysterical. I will miss the pleasure I derived knowing you were under the gun. I'm laughing as I type wondering how many times I thought "God, Buzz is going to rip me a new one this week" and then looked forward to seeing what you had to say. It was almost as much fun as hosting.

I did finally put a reminder in my outlook that would pop up at noon every Thursday to remind me to pick a theme. Happy MCW.

Good evening buzz kill,

You realize, the promise of bare Polynesian breasts is part of what got me into this mess in the first place. And this movie helped to spark the lust.

So great choice and happy clip day!

@MRM: Outlook popup, Bwawahaha.

Are there bare Polynesian breasts in this? Haven't seen it. Did see "The Caine Mutiny". Very good little film.

Great choice. Much better than the way later remake with Anthony Hopkins and Mel Gibson, going all bug-eyed and over-acted. Although, I think the bare boobs Troll's looking for were in that remake.

With all of the flooding you endured, this movie should be right up your alley. Thanks for the Heads Up on the Madman's birthday, but as old as he is, I'll let him suffer with some dignity.

Scout dad is going to be real busy this month. The boy got his eagle project approved yesterday and we now have less than a month to get it done (before he turns 19). Stay tuned.

I've been on some of these ships too (most recently the USS Constitution) and it's no Love Boat. Most of the crew deaths on these ships was from disease or rigging accidents. You really had to love the sea or be running from the law to be a sailor.

Boxer
The Caine Mutiny with Bogart and Jose Ferrer is one of the greatest movies on Navy pshycology and command that I've ever seen.

Glad your back and don't worry about me and the themes. I'll interpret them as I see fit. Best Romantic Dance - lesbians dancing; Best Romantic Scene - lesbians kissing...I can do this all day.

Madman
You love me, you really love me! Just because you're not hosting don't think you should give up on trying to get inside my head. Keep looking over your shoulder because you'll never see it coming.

An Outlook reminder! Grasshopper has finally snatched the stone from Master's hand - it is time for you to pick up the firey hibatchi and go.

But before you do - HAPPY BIRTHDAY MADMAN you old dog!

Karl/Troll/Moi
Mutiny on the Bounty has some of the most fully clothed native women you'll ever see. The Bounty, on the other hand, only had a PG rating with all that boobage. I guess if it's artsy or depicts natives it's all good.

I don't know, I thought Anthony Hopkins played a really good Bligh. And Mel looked more natural as Fletcher Christian than Gable did. I'm sure naked women had a lot to do with that.

Well, it's sin, guilt, regret, anxiety... It's that good Catholic upbringing and and the Mrs is a husband beater (metaphorically speaking). The fact that I don't have an ulcer big enough to drive a truck through is just a miracle of modern science.

Happy Anniversary to you and V.
