Movie Clip Wednesday - Favorite Buddy Movie

With Boxer being gone for what - 5 years? the Milk River Madman continues hosting the Movie Clip Wednesday Meme where everyone picks a clip from their favorite movies based on a weekly theme and tries to keep the clip or clips to around 3 minutes long. This week's theme is FAVORITE BUDDY MOVIE. I like this theme because it is pretty broad (I meant wide in scope - not good-looking babe), promises to be funny as most buddies are and could include woman, animals and even machines as buddies (I hope someone does that take on the theme - I, of course, will not). I thought of two, relatively new buddy movies that didn't do all that well at the box office but that I think are hysterical. Interestingly, they both have the same, very popular co-star in them (which I talk about in a minute).

The first one is the Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly hoot - Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Ferrell and Reilly have paired in several movies, but this is by far their best. And Reilly is outstanding as Ferrell's racing sidekick who always lets him win. I believe I used this movie before, so I won't use it here.

And the one I've chosen is a little obscure but it's been running on HBO for the last couple of weeks and I think it's under-rated and extremely funny. It's 2008's Role Models starring Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott. What makes it funny (to me) is the way these two handle kids.

The common denominator in both movies is Jane Lynch. Talladega Nights was the first movie I ever saw her in. And in Role Models she plays a psycho head of a day care center (maybe the forerunner for her part in Glee?) and she plays well off of Rudd and Scott. The following clip is the best scene in the movie (sorry for the poor quality - it was taped off of a TV screen but all I could find).

It's a guy movie for sure with some crude comedy writing as evidenced in the following clip.

For more favorite buddy movies go on over and see the Madman . I guess we can consider him Boxer's funny, drunken, sidekick buddy. Nah, I was just kidding about the funny part.

"Which one of us has the Phd?" Good stuff. Lynch is funny. She's in 40-year-old Virgin and A Mighty Wind which is funny as hell. Like me by the way. Seriously, "just kidding about the funny part" is gold, Buzz, gold.

Isnt that woman in Glee too? And Im sure she was also a lesbian lawyer in The L Word. Paul Rudd is cute and has his moments for sure :)

I haven't seen this one and will check it out. Looks fun! I love Jane Lynch as Sue Sylvester -- it was the first I had ever heard of her (in Glee) ... and have liked Paul Rudd since Clueless. Happy MCW!

Good evening Buzz Kill,

I don't know about the first clip. I had to clean my beer off my monitor for the second one. Best laugh of the day.

Happy clip day!

We recently saw Role Models and I laughed in spite of myself, due in large part to Jane Lynch, who seems unable to do anything wrong.

As for Talladega Nights? Classic, man, classic.

That is the best line in the movie. And you are funny, that's why I read your rants.

You know, when you posted the theme, I was actually going to go with Gary Busey in The Buddy Holly Story just to be a smart ass. Bwahahaha

Paul Rudd has a pretty dry sense of humor which I like. This is his best and I think you'd like it. HBO has been playing it a lot (saw it last night - again).

Yep, Jane Lynch is in Glee and the L word. One of the reasons I chose this flick is because Pam, Moi, Chicky etal like Glee. I was appealing to the masses on this one.

I know you'd like the Jane Lynch parts. But it's a guy movie and has a lot of crude humor. The kid that plays 10 YO Ronnie is hysterical. There's a running joke where he confuses Paul Rudd with Ben Affleck.

If you liked the 2nd clip than you'd like the movie.

I never knew who she was before Talladega Nights. Now she's everywhere. I just saw her in Julie and Julia, which was interesting food porn.

How could a southern girl like you not like Talladega Nights? Just the NASCAR references alone are pretty funny. And Jane Lynch played Ricky Bobby's mom even though she's only 7 years older than Ferrell. She was way funnier in Role Models. There's credits?
