Movie Clip Wednesday - Worst Movie Sequel

Boxer is still lurking around her movie-themed Frankenstein's monster but not yet ready to resume holding the lightning rod. So, the Milk River Madman continues hosting the Movie Clip Wednesday Meme where everyone picks a clip from their favorite movies based on a weekly theme and tries to keep the clip or clips to around 3 minutes long. This week's theme is WORST MOVIE SEQUEL. Let's face it, with very few exceptions, the vast majority of sequels are pretty bad. Star Wars, The Terminator and The Godfather come to mind immediately as the best ones. And The Road Warrior is one of those even rarer sequels that was better than the original. The nature of the sequel is to cash in on a proven formula ... a magic that is rarely captured twice.

With so many bad sequels out there, the Madman had me scratching my head on this. But...I will have to go with 1988's Caddyshack 2. The only word to describe this sequel is - HORRENDOUS. The original Caddyshack is on my top 5 favorite comedies list with great performances from Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight and Bill Murray. One of the most quotable movies of all time. Then comes Caddyshack 2 with Jackie Mason, Robert Stack and Dan Aykroyd - Jesus H Christ did they make a mess of it! Jackie Mason and Dan Aykroyd are just completely unwatchable. I like Robert Stack but you can tell he wanted out and Randy Quaid basically played his Vacation based Eddy character (which was probably the best part of this movie). The only original main character to return was Chevy Chase and he really wasn't that funny in the original.

Not surprisingly, there aren't many clips available, but this one is bad enough:

The real problem with this theme is that we're all going to have to endure bad movie clips. I'm sure there will be plenty of them over at the Madman 's.

i think we can all agree that sequels suck. but thanks for reminding on times when they didnt. terminator 2 and road warrior and just that. i didnt see caddyshack, but i know that greed is what motivates actors to ruin their once iconic characters. or if not greed, just maintaing the hollywood lifestyle. I freaking HATE hollywood. Lex Luther was right. Turn arizona into beach front property.

Happy MCW my entry is my entry is here

I forgot all about Road Warrior. Good one. This one, however, NOT. Although the original is still exceptionally quotable. Happy, happy!

Trying to recall Chase, Ackroyd and Mason being funny ANYWHERE and failing. As to superior sequels, I thought ALIENS was a tad better than ALIEN.

Happy MCW

Hey! I think Madman is doing a great job and if I took it back, it would s u c k. :-)

Caddyshack is one of my all time favorites and of course they did a sequel and of course it in no way could capture the stupidity of the original.

Happy MCW.

Good afternoon Buzz kill,

I never bothered to see this one,Some friends told me how bad it was.

I agree with Boxer, Madman is doing a fine job. If he doesn't mind doing it, he should keep running the show.

I haven't seen either.

*makes note to see Caddyshack*

Yeah, making the rounds is tough anytime you have a "Worst" catagory.

You know, if we stopped paying to see sequels...they'd still make the damn things. Moi would be closer to the beach with your Lex Luthor plan. Give me some time to buy some desert property first.

I saw the Road Warrior in the theater and before I saw Mad Max. When I finally saw Mad Max years later I remember thinking that someone took a huge gamble making RW based on this piece of crap. I think Mel's lines were dubbed in.

Heff
Caddyshack was the last movie I saw in the theater with my father (he was an avid golfer and died in 1981). He and I didn't see eye to eye on much, but we both loved this movie.

Aunty
I can tolerate Chevy in Vacation, Christmas Vacation (another good sequel) and Fletch. That's about it.

Troll
I don't know, I really liked Alien. Just for the scene where the baby alien comes out of Harry Dean Stanton's chest if for no other reason.

Boxer
I just like to give you and the Madman grief because it's sort of become part of my regular MCW shtick. There's nothing more to be said about Caddyshack - it's the best.

Karl
Jackie Mason is so not funny. And where the original was actually about golf, this one is about miniature golf. Without Rodney Dangerfield, why bother? He reportedly was considering reprising his Al Chervik role but threw the script in the trash after he read it.

Roses
Caddyshack is a little dated but you won't regret seeing it once.

Buzz, you're kind of getting you're balls busted for the "MRM" schtick. I know it's all been in good fun and I LOVE jabbing you about it and how well you take it. When the smoke is all cleared on this meme I'll tell the story. Until then I'm giving you the minimum amount of time to get something posted. I love the back and forth. Just sayin. It's all for you in Jersey. "MRM must have really been on the Crown. MRM gave us short notice again. Blah blah blah." paraphrasing of course. Caddyshack 2 was my second choice but knew someone would pick this piece of shit. Thanks for playing.

I think Jackie Mason was sort of popular around about that time and the tried to capitalize on it, of course. The original is just the best. We quote it continuously around here. Be the ball! Cinderella story! The ol' Billy Baroo! Oh Billy Billy Billy. You get the idea. The sequel? Can't say I have ever made it through. Sorry I was out of pocket today, didn't get to play :(
